Have you been involved in a tricky situation involving a colleague at work and it seems that a face-to-face discussion will not help in resolving the conflict? Are you a manager or supervisor responsible for team members who are in conflict? Are you about to participate in a facilitated discussion with another staff member or parent? These challenging behaviours are likely to have a negative impact on the work environment and may need to be resolved by a manager or supervisor who is acting as a facilitator. It is ideal if contentious issues can be resolved:

  • Early
  • Informally
  • By the most appropriate people

In this one-hour online course you will learn the key aspects of the process of facilitated discussions can be used to resolve workplace conflict. Through a combination of quizzes, case studies, mini lectures, you will acquire an understanding of how issues between staff members can be resolved in a structured and respectful manner through effective facilitation skills

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the differences between facilitation and mediation
  • Understand the three concepts that underpin a successful facilitation (natural justice, decision making and reasonable management action)
  • Assess a case scenario involving conflict between staff members for its suitability for a facilitated discussion
  • Recall the components of a facilitation process and how these are expressed in an opening statement at a facilitation
  • List the key features surrounding a facilitated discussion including confidentiality, the non-disciplinary nature, support people and documentation
  • Document how you intend to apply your new found skills and knowledge to your personalised practice
